Assignment#16 The Journey

I wake up in a big bed with lots of pillows around me. Next to the bed is a little night stand with a light and book on it. There is not much light in the cabin. There is a little desk with papers on it in one of the corners. On the other side of the desk is a big window. Early in the mornings you can see the sun’s rays peeking through the curtains. Letting the light hit the floor and part of the bed. Next to the desk there is a TV. There are two couches and a little coffee table. With lots of different pictures hanging on the walls. The walls are a dark wood color. In some spots there are little designs. In the middle of one wall there is a small fire place with a few pieces of wood next to it.

I open the big door of the cabin and walk outside. Outside there is a big field. In the field there is lots of grass and flowers. Some spots the grass is really high up to your knees. I see little animals running around. Hiding around in the tall long grass. When I walk in the field it smells fresh like after it rains. In some spots the grass is darker than others. There are trees spread all over the field most of them are still small. There are only a few large trees. There is one really big tree in one of the corners. Little rabbits play around the tree in the nice shaded area. In one tree there is a home where a big owl lives. You can’t really see him. As I walk farther down I see baby deer. Laying there waiting for their mother to come back. As I keep walking down the field lots of little bugs swarm around. You can hear them as they fly close to your ears. I hear no loud sounds or bangs just the trees moving gently in the wind and the little animals running through the grass. At the end of the field is a big patch of flowers. There are lots of different flowers and they are all so colorful.

As I walk off the field there is a big mountain. I start climbing the mountain. There are a lot of trees as well as animals. Most of the way up the trail is just dirt and rocks. Along the walk I see really big rocks. I come to a river and along the river there are patches of grass. The river is not that deep you can kind of see the bottom of it. As I’m walking along the river you can smell the scent of fresh water. At the bottom there is dirt and sand. There are also rocks in some spots some are big and others are really tiny. I walk along the river and see fish jumping in the water. Little frogs jumping behind rocks as I get closer to them. As I walk past them you can hear them croaking. You can hear the water splashing as it hits rocks and the fish jump. Around the river the trees look darker in color. Most of the trees are very tall only a few of them are tiny. I see a little squirrel run right in front of me into a little whole in a tree.

Assignment#14: Persuasive Essay

High school is a time when you should be yourself. So I really don't think we should have to wear uniforms. Not being able to wear our own clothes is a lack of freedom of expression. We have always been told to express ourselves. The way we dress is another way of finding our place in the world. So if we all we know is uniforms its going to be harder to find our place. Not to mention all the extra money needed to be spent.
Not being able to wear what we want is not fair. They should not be able to just change the rules when ever they want. Young adults often express there feelings through clothes. So by saying we cant wear whatever is like saying we cant express what we feel. And were always being told to express who we are. How can we do that if we have to wear uniform? Teachers and other adults are always saying we live in a free country. Well then why don't they let us wear what we want.
There is another issue of cost of the uniform. Not all families can afford to buy uniforms. Also parents would still have to buy regular clothes for when were not in school. Because uniforms have no use out of school. Making Parents spend way more then they need to.
Uniform is not a very good way to cut down school violence. Student could still find ways to hide ans bring weapons to school. A better way would be if parents would pay a little more attention to their kid. Making sure there not doing dumb things. Not all students should be punished for what only some kids are doing, that's really not fair. If a student were to do a crime other students would not be able to describe what that student looked like. All because everybody else in school is wearing the same thing or pretty close to it.

Many educators and experts believe that uniforms should improve, behavioral, and social outcomes, in reality they do not. These experts argue that the studies of schools who have uniforms do not report that it helps in any of those areas. So then if it does not help why make us wear them? Why does every one make a big deal about them?

Assignment#9 Alien Contact

One night David was on his way home from his friend’s house. It was really dark out and there was a cold breeze blowing. David had a weird feeling on his way home. He felt like something bad was going to happen. So he was trying to get home as fast as he could. As he was walking he sees a big object flying in the sky with lots of lights. At first David thinks it’s just a plane. When he tries to look up to see what it was the lights were to bright. So when it starts to get further he looks again. After looking at it he is in shock because it’s not a plane. He’s not sure what it is. He looks up again but then the object falls out of the sky landing in a big field. David not sure what to do runs to see what it was. When he gets close he waits behind a tree to see. After a few minutes a door opens and out come these things that look like humans. The only difference is they have really big heads, and no toes or fingers. David scared stands up to run but one of those creatures sees him and walks over to David. He looks at David and says “we seem to be lost will you help us?” David asks “Where are you guys from, what are you guys?” We are from a different plan, ew no we are not humans. We think humans are gross creatures. But we were wondering if you can help us. We need to fix our flying saucer. So David tells them he will help them.

Assignment#13

Black cat passes by. White skeletons out tonight. Night as black as death.
Trick or treat is here. The witch on her ragged broom. Bags full of candy.
An owl crying out whoo. Smiling jack o lanterns. Spirits haunt my dreams.

Assignment #11

Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it
learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping it's dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.

When I read this poem it makes me think of a person. The rose being the person. The concrete being a hard place to live in. That its not always easy to accomplish things in bad conditions. Not everything was easy but he got through it.Learned how to deal with things. Never giving up no matter what problems he came across. A person that maybe nobody believed in but still went for it. He didn't stop trying when it got tough. Hes not going to let people get to him. He can do it without them. When he made it people looked at him different. They started appreciating him.
If you have goals and dreams never give up on them no matter the circumstances. Don't ever let anybody try and put you down. They just don't want to see you do good because maybe there jealous. If you just keep trying and never give up you will eventually get to where your going. And when you get there it will be the best filling. Knowing that you did it even when people said you couldn't and you had no help.

Assignment # 10

"Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life, but define yourself.(Firestone S. Harvey)"
Bullying is a mean thing to do. Bullying is when an individual or group of people pick on someone else, That they think is weaker then them. There's different forms of it one is indirect such as spreading rumors or trying to make people reject that person. Direct is another way such as name calling, hitting, teasing or taunting. Sometimes people think bullying is not a big deal and just part of life. But bullying is harmful. People who are bullied can be leaded to avoid school. Start acting out and doing bad things. Some bad cases can also lead to suicide.
I have always been taught that picking on someone for any reason is wrong. So I don't like bullying I think its a horrible thing. I don't understand how people can put others down. I would never bully anybody. I would fill really bad and so hurt with myself. Because I know how it fills to be hurt and its not fun. Even though I've never really been bullied before.
People have called me names and it did hurt me a little bit, even though I know I was none of those things. People have also spread rumors about me which is so rude because other people start talk. Saying things that are not true and trying to bring me down. But I just tried really hard to ignore it and just move on. At first it was not easy I let it get to me but later learned to ignore them. I have never been bullied directly like getting hit. I really would not know what to do in a situation like that. I think people don't try to bully me because I don't look weak.
If I were to see someone getting bullied I really don't know what I'd do. Because I've never seen anybody getting bullied before.I know your supposed to help them but sometimes its not that easy. Sometime you don't know how to handle the situation. Hmm well maybe we should go get an adult, but not all of us think like that. What I would do is take that person and talk with an adult and try to fix it.

Assignment7: Jealousy

Jealousy is simply and clearly the fear that you do not have value. Jealousy scans for evidence to prove the point - that others will be preferred and rewarded more than you. There is only one alternative - self-value. If you cannot love yourself, you will not believe that you are loved. You will always think it's a mistake or luck. Take your eyes off others and turn the scanner within. Find the seeds of your jealousy, clear the old voices and experiences. Put all the energy into building your personal and emotional security. Then you will be the one others envy, and you can remember the pain and reach out to them. (Jennifer James)

Jealousy is one of the most common emotions. But no one wants to admit there a jealous person. It tends to bring out the bad in people. Even though most of us know better but still let it get to us. Some animals even experience this emotion. Liks for example Chimpanzes or Elephants. Jealousy has been around for centurys. In a lot of the storys in history they involve jealousy. Jealousy has a very big impact on us humans. So why do we still behave in this way? Doctors say because our jobs, family, homes and other material things. All this stuff are things we dint want to lose and they mean a lot to us.
Envy in some ways is like jealousy. Envy is when you want what other people have. Like nice cars, big houses and brand name clothes. But some people say its not the same. Jealousy is the fear of losing something. And when something like that does happen people start to fill angyry or sad. In my opinion I think envy is the same thing.
On of the types of jealousy is relationship. Its the most common type thats experienced. Most of the first fights couples encounter is because of jealousy. Another is when you want something that a friend has. Or the fear of losing a friend. Jealousy between siblings is another big one. One sibling can become jealous if a new baby comes into the family. They usually fill like their parents dont pay attention to them anymore.
Overcoming jealousy is one of those things easiere said then done. Jealousy is always in the back of our minds. To overcome it you have to search within your heart. The reason your having these fillings is because something is bothering you. Some jealousy is good sometimes. And too much can ruin things and somtimes be life threatening.
"If envy were a fever, all the world would be ill.(Danish Proverb)"

I Dream A World

I dream a world where man
No other man will scorn,
Where love will bless the earth
And peace its paths adorn
I dream a world where all
Will know sweet freedom's way,
Where greed no longer saps the soul
Nor avarice blights our day.
A world I dream where black or white,
Whatever race you be,
Will share the bounties of the earth
And every man is free,
Where wretchedness will hang its head
And joy, like a pearl,
Attends the needs of all mankind-
Of such I dream, my world!

I think this poem has a few different meanings. Langston Hughes wanted the world to be a place where there are no race issues. Where people are not slaves and have to suffer. Everybody will know what freedom is. Where love is all around and everybody cares for everyone. The world is full of peace where there are no wars or big problems. A place where people are not greedy. People are not always worried about money. Where people are not so materialistic. Not always worried about tryinr to have better things then other people. A place where people can lend a helping hand and not want something back in return. People would be thankful of what they have and not want what other people have. You should always be proud of yourself and what your doing. Everything that you have done all the things you have accomplished.
Sure we all want world peace. A place where everybody gets along. Where there are no fighting and wars. But its a small possibiliy that it will happen. Not everyone cares if we have world peace. They just care about there lifes and thats it. A lot of the people dont care about the big problems. I think if more people cared about the problems it would help. If more people helped to try and solve problems they wouldnt be so big.

Race In America

"Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away, and that in some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty (Martin Luther King Jr.)." There is a lot of racism in the world now then ever before. Even more now then when Hitler was around. Like the burning of the Quran or the new Islamic Mosque that’s wanted to be built.
I think that they shouldn't build the Mosque that close to the 9/11 memorial. Not just because their Muslims but just out of respect. I also don’t think they should have tried building it around the time of the anniversary. In a way I think some people blew it out of proportion. Just because Muslims are the ones who crashed into the buildings. That doesn't mean that all Muslim people are bad but that’s what we think. But because that’s the way we were taught. That if one person does something wrong then everybody is bad.
Thursday Pastor Terry Jones called off the burning of the Korans. He had wanted to show that the Islamics are very dangerous. All because of few of them burned down the twin towers. Which I think not all of them are bad.
There are some people that agree that its okay to burn the Koran. Saying that if its okay to burn the flag then why cant they burn the Koran. Burning the Koran is like building the mosque. You know you have the right to. But is it he proper and good thing to do. I think burning the book is un American.
The burning of the Koran is not right. Pastor Terry Jones is making things worse then they need to be. By have the burning of the Koran day that makes all of us look like bad people. President Obama is saying by burning the books we are putting our troops in danger. They are afraid that there people are going to start to hate us even more. By hating us more their going to start more trouble. They think there going to want to kill our soldiers more. When they already want to kill them. I don’t think its putting them in that much danger. They are already in danger by just being there.

My Sophomore Year

First day of sophomore year was exciting. But even more because the school was starting to grow. We had our own building, a big new library, a big cafeteria and a gym. Even though the gym was not done until half way through the year. We were now the upper class. The little freshmen would join us.
The first week was a little bit crazy finding where all my classes where.Learning the new schedule. Starting to have to wake up early.Walk all the way to the bus when the moon was still out. I have learned a lot of things this year. I should pay attention in class so i  understand how to do the work. Always do my homework and turn it in. So that I pass all my classes.
This year has not been easy. Sometimes it was a little hard. But I managed to get through it. Some of the work was a little hard and sometimes I didnt understand it. Math was one of the classes I had trouble in I never really got it. One of the things I liked the most is the blog we got to do. All of the stories we wrote. We could write about we wanted. And being able to see what other student did.  A lot of classes dont get to do those kind of things.
I have made new friends in all my classes. It was really fun getting to know more people. Haning out with different people not always just the same people. I learned that joining a team was fun. You got to meet more people.  Even people from other schools. We got to go places and hang out. I got to know a few freshmen that I would of never tought about talking to.
This year was a lot of fun all the new friends I made and fun teachers I had.  I have learned that things are not always going to be easy. But if I try hard I enough I know I could do it. Its always good to meet new friends. And join clubs or teams. I can not wait until next year. Its going to be lots of fun. Then only one more year and Im done.

Betrayal!!

Betrayal a word that could mean so much. By definition betrayal means to be unfaithful. It can make you lose trust so fast. Trust is something that is hard to give. Even harder when someone breaks that trust. Betrayal is one of the worst things you can do to a person. There are many different ways you can betray someone.

Julius Caesar is about full of betrayal. Friendship was used to cover the truth. The people he thought were his friends were really out to get him. What they did was gain his trust which is the main key to any friendship. Making it easier to betray him in the end. The trust would soon be lost and turned into betrayal. His friend formed a strong union with Caesar. He would tell him things so that Caesar would trust him more and more.

Caesars feelings of doubt soon started to fade. Not worrying about them plotting against him. He was not able to see who his true friends were. Decius using his words to keep there "friendship" until it was the right time.

Finally one day they plot there plan the death of Caesar. They knew they had to draw him in. Not giving him any clues of their betrayal. So then one day they were all together waiting for the right time to come. They would all get close to him and then attack. Caesar was not expecting anything bad to happen. When he was sitting there they came up to him. They all started stabbing him until he hit the floor. He could fight back there was to many of them.

Time Machine

If I could build a time machine and go anywhere in time. I don't think I would want to go into the past. Because I think every thing happens for a reason. I think I would rather go to the future. I would want to see how the world turns out. See all the new technologies. See what there cellphones, computers, cars look like.Do they still even use cars or do they fly. I would have so many questions to ask. Like do polar bears still exist, is there still a north pole? Is Mcdonald's still around? Has there been a female president? See if the forests are still around and the oceans.

Letter

My dearest descendants, My name is Samantha M Nicholls. I was born June 4th, 1994.  Life is probably way different now then when I was around. Well maybe a few things are still the same

This is the year 2010 and us humans have been idiots. We have caused so much damage to planet earth. That I am afraid there wont be much for you and the generations that follow. We have caused global warming. We've killed a lot of animals and plants that used to populate this planet. Cut down trees in the forests, dump chemicals in our oceans. Poisoned the precious air we breath. We are burning all of the fossil fuels. Soon there will be none left.

I sometimes think as this a big part of history. Every 80 or so years something big happens and we come to hard times. Like the American Revolution or The Civil War. Now I think is one of those times. But hopefully we will get threw it. Like we did all the other ones.

I am very sorry for all the damaged that we caused. I really hope that you can fix our mistakes. Repair our wonderful planet, or at least whats left of it.  It don't take long to mess up something that was once beautiful.

There is a good 100 years between now and the day you read this. But I am going to try to help fix things. I am only one person. I know that I cant do much, but if we all work together we might be able ti fix it. Maybe we will find new ways to do things. Find better more healthier ways of transportation. Different ways to power things.

The future belongs to you. Its in your hands. Please take care of planet earth. She is very precious. Don't take advantage of her. You can only take so much before there is nothing left. So when you take, try to give some back. What you do now, your great great grandchildren will have to deal with it. "Life is simple, it's just not easy. (Author Unknown.)"

With love Form you great great grandma, Samantha

Change

Today I helped in making a change. By going to change.org I created an account so that I can sign petitions. To try and help make a difference. There are a lot of problems out there. And people do not know about most of them. So by creating an account, you can help. To make some of these problems noticed and possibly fixed or changed. It does not take much to help make a change.

The Great Debaters

The great debaters is a well meaning story. It a drama based on a true story. Melvin B a professor at Wiley College Texas played by Denzel Washington. The professor starts a debate team in 1935. In the world of debate, you have to carefully pick and deliver the words in order to win. He pushed them very hard and helped get them get many victories. They won most of there local debates. They got to go up against Harvard in a National Championship, and they won. "We do what we have to do in order to do what we want to do (Farmer James Jr.)." I would give this movie four stars out of five. I think its a very interesting movie. The actors did a very good job. Making you feel like you are there with them. Felling everything they do; pain, happiness, hurt, confusion, success.

Starfish Story

The moral of this story is that a young boy is wlaking along the beach picking up starfish. By doing so he ih saving there lifes because the shore is low. Even if he can save every single starfish the ones he did throw back he did make a difference to them. So the moral is you can help make a change no matter how little the deed is.

Statue Of Liberty

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
                                                  -Emma Lazarus

Lady Liberty's crown has seven points representing the seven seas. The torch represents a burning passion for freedom and contains a flame that is coated in gold leaf. The broken shackles at the base of Lady Liberty's feet represent freedom from oppression.

Global warming is one of the biggest issues facing our wildlife and planet. Some scientist say that the rising tempatures can cause around 20-30 percent of the earths extinction of plants and animals between now and 2050. Global warming can also cuase extintion of polar bears in our lifetime. The rising tempature is already melting the ice which makes it harder for them to hunt for food. Some are even resorting to cannibalism.

Sunsets slowly fade across the horizon as colors fill the sky.
